If you're deciding what college to go to, there are probably millions of thoughts running through your mind right now. Choosing a college can be stressful, frustrating and even annoying depending on the specific situation you are in. Despite the various factors that go in to choosing a college/university, there are several reasons to choose one over another.
I, personally, have experienced the college application and committing process like millions of other students. It was anything but easy, although there are definitely ways to reduce your stress revolving around the big decision during this era of your life. It's crucial to talk to people who went through this process and take time for yourself when stressing about this.
Despite the college you choose, you can be successful wherever you go with the right work ethic and determination. It's important to know that this decision doesn't define you and that there's room to make mistakes. If for some reason you realize that you made the wrong decision, you can always transfer or take a gap year to genuinely figure out what you want to do in the future. There's nothing wrong with needing a break in between high school and college.
For those of you undoubtably ready to make a decision, here are some ideas and tips that helped me during this process. Firstly, think about where you are going to thrive educationally and socially. Do you fit in with the people that go to this college? Is it the right size or would you rather be somewhere with more/less students? Will this college set you up for the best job in your major after graduation? These are the some questions I had to ask myself when truly debating between multiple schools.
If you can picture yourself walking to class everyday at a particular school, you're halfway there. You need to be able to envision yourself being a part of that college's community in order for it to be a possibility. If you don't think you fit in with the majority of the students or strongly dislike the area, it's probably time to move on to another school on your list.
While keeping in mind the questions mentioned above, the most important one you ask yourself should be "Will I be happy here?"
