Three Million Dogs

Dogs are some of the sweetest, most innocent creatures on earth. They live to please and will do anything in their power to make their owners happy. I recently became a dog owner, and have found such great happiness in my new pup. There are also some struggles that come with owning a dog. I've only been a dog parent for about a week now, but in that time I have learned some valuable lessons about what it means to take care of a pup. So here are the pieces of advice that I have for other new and future dog owners.

First off, be patient. This is something that I have learned from the minute I became a dog owner. My dog is three years old but had a rough life before coming into mine. So he's scared of humans. When we are near large groups he puts his head in between mine or my significant other's legs and hides. He also doesn't like other dogs. He barks and pulls at the leash near them, making us realize that he probably wasn't socialized enough when he was younger. He also hates being alone and barks whenever we leave him. Which is a problem, since I live in an apartment, and soon he's going to have to be alone for more than just an hour at a time. However, these little things are all going to get better with time. I just have to be patient. So if your new dog has some mild behavior issues, don't worry. Teach them what they're supposed to do and with time, they will get better.

Next, remind them how much you love them. Training a dog also involves love. Give them treats when they do well. Give them kisses when they look up at you. Snuggle them and love them and show them how happy you are to have them in your life. Especially if you adopted a shelter dog, they may not know what true love is. Show them how incredibly happy they make you because that too will help them learn and know that everything will be ok.

Finally, remember to make some time for you. When you first get a dog, it feels like every moment is being spent taking care of them and making sure that they're doing ok in their new home. Remember to take a deep breath and to relax. Don't stress over things, and remember that it's ok to go out for a little bit while they stay in the house. You deserve your own attention just as much as they do. And when you come back, they will be there safe and sound and ready to devour with your love.

Having a dog enters your life is an exciting thing, as you find a new friend. Taking care of a dog comes with its challenges, but in the end, it's so very worth it. You and your dog have a long road of happiness ahead. Love them the whole time.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
