If you're like me then you know how the post-holiday season blues feel. We all experience this kick back into reality differently. For most of us a new semester of college is starting and we go back to our dorms. Learning new material, getting used to new professors and their policies, getting back into our normal (or not so normal) college student sleep cycle is a huge struggle that helps us get back into the daily grind. Some of us may need to work on shedding the couple (or more) pounds that we put on from all those mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, and Christmas cookies. Here are helpful tips to help you cope with the post-holiday blues.
1. Eat Healthier
I know that for me this is an extremely hard one, especially considering that I cook my own meals. Instant packaged food like ramen and mac and cheese can be gratifying because of how much time and money it saves you but I will admit that eating slightly healthier makes me feel better in the end.
2. Get Quality Sleep
Nobody expects college students like us to go to sleep at 7pm. I know that I sometimes find myself going to bed as late as 2-3am, especially during vacation but now it's time to get back into a consistent sleep schedule. Going to sleep and waking up around the same time every day will make you feel better and will eventually become more and more natural to you.
3. Exercise
I personally, will not be going on 2 mile runs everyday but a short trip to the gym a few times a week never hurt nobody. It doesn't have to be a New Year's Resolution because those never work out anyway but just do it for yourself. This semester I am going to try my best to shut my laptop and make it to the gym a few times a week knowing that afterward I will feel better and more accomplished.
4. Keep In Touch With Your Loved Ones
Whether you live 5 hours or 50 minutes away from school it is always nice to hear from the people you love most. I will be frequently calling my home and my boo just to get that extra push I need to finish that last bit of homework or just to hear their voice.
