Let me paint a picture for you. You're laying in bed, coughing up a lung. Your throat is red and raw, it feels like you drank a cup of tabasco and every time you cough or sneeze it gets even worse. Tissues litter your twin size bed, and you can't eat because your fever is so high. It's community living on campus - dorm life - and you're sick yet again. It seems like when you're living in a dorm, you stay sick. The students on campus know what I'm talking about, and here are some of the best tips to get well soon that I've heard.
1. Airborne
Across college campuses, students are chewing on Airborne daily to keep their immune systems up so they don't get sick in the first place. This isn't a cure; it's a preventative measure. You can take up to three of these gummies a day, and they're suppose to keep you from catching that cold that is going around the dorm like the plague.
2. Vitamin C
So I hadn't heard about this until last week when my friend came home with a basket of fruits and juices. When I asked her what in the world she was doing, she told me she was starting to get a cold and was attempting to ward it off. Apparently a lot of students actually do this, but I have yet to try it for myself.
3. Vick's Vapor Rub
This one is kind of an old wive's tale. My grandmother suggested it. Slather it on your chest and then cover it with a warm, wet rag before you go to sleep to clear out your sinuses. Does it really work? Well, it always makes me feel better. And that smell definitely clears out your sinuses.
4. Mucinex/Zyrtec/AllegraD
You can usually get these over the counter, but you may have to make a quick visit to the doctor's office to get these filled. These DEFINITELY work, and they work fairly quickly. My personal opinion is that it is worth a quick trip to the doctor's office to feel better quickly.
5. Steroid Shot
Seriously. I love modern medicine. I would take a shot any day if it meant I could feel better quickly. Some people like to get better on their own - they won't even take an Advil for a headache. I am NOT that person. Steroid shots make you feel better within a few hours. Again, you'll have to go to the doctor's to get this, but it's totally worth it.
