Tips To Cope With The Election

Ever since the election many people, including myself, have been having a difficult time. It is very unfortunate that a man who brags about sexual assault and has been endorsed by the KKK is going to be our president. I am finally coming to terms with this and am now just crossing my fingers that these next four years go better than expected. (Although, I am also prepared to fight for the rights of women, children, minorities, and the LGBT+ community.) If you are also having a difficult time with this election, there are a few things you can try that might make you feel better.

Donate to a cause.

There are many people (as well as the environment) who could lose their rights and possibly even be in danger because of this election. Donate to a cause such as Planned Parenthood, the Sierra Club, or the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights

Partake in a peaceful protest.

Going to a peaceful protest might help you cope with this election. Being surrounded by other people who feel the same way as you do can really help empower you during this hard time. (Emphasis on peaceful – please don’t bring a baseball bat or gun.)

Watch something funny.

Shut your mind out from the world and watch a comedy on Netflix. I also suggest watching John Oliver and Trevor Noah to help you find some comedic relief in this situation.

Go shopping.

Don’t hurt your bank account too much, but treating yourself might just be the pick me up you need. I have bought four shirts since the election. I am still sad but at least I will look cute while I cry.

Volunteer.

Distract yourself from the bad in the world by trying to contribute some good. Volunteer at your local food bank, school, or charitable organization. There are a lot of people who are terrified because of the election and volunteering is a great way to help them.

Work twice as hard.

Let the setback of the election be your motivation. You can positively contribute to society and you can make an impact if you do the work. Study extra hard, work extra hard, and do what you can to make a difference.

Find consciousness.

Put your phone away and avoid social media. Instead, take a deep breath, meditate, listen to music, go on a run, and watch the sunrise. Life will go on.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
