Of course we all want to be flexible and find a spiritual balance, but the journey to get there, even with yoga practice, can be quite challenging.
Here are a few not-so-peaceful situations you might experience when trying to get to that ideal mindful place.
1. Why is this class so crowded?
Many yoga studios offer free or low cost community classes and that's a great opportunity for beginners to practice, but you're probably not the only one thinking that. The result? Just a few inches of separation between your mat and the mouth breather beside you.
Tip: Get to class 20 minutes early.
2. I feel like a robot.
Although some people are naturally flexible, usually flexibility is something that is developed through practice.
Tip: Don't give up. You'll be amazed of the progress you'll make.
3. I am sweating more than I would in a spinning class.
There are many types of yoga, be sure you select a class that is within your level of expertise.
Tip: If you are looking for an intense option with high cardio, check out Power Yoga and Hot Yoga. If you'd rather focus on making the pose at a calmed pace, then Hatha Yoga may be a good option.
4. This is too intense.
If you feel the class is too much for your body then take a break. Yoga class isn't a competition. Yoga is based on peace and self development, so don't feel bad if you need to take a break.
Tip: Just go into child's pose and recuperate.
5. What is this Shavasana?
It's the best part of the yoga practice. This is the moment where you just lay there and thank your body for everything it just put you through.
Tip: Beware of falling asleep! Each practice concludes with Shavasana. Once you open your eyes you will be ready to face the world full of enthusiasitic energy.
