The Lessons I Learned From Tinder

The day I got tinder was a day I will never forget. As a college freshman, the world was suddenly so open to explore that anything is possible. Valentines Day of 2018 was no different to this belief. After seeing Fiftey Shades Freed with my friends, a friend of mine was talking about tinder and I was like "maybe I should make one". So she and I made my profile in like ten minutes and that's when this whole adventure started. I never liked the idea of online dating, but I'm a person up for anything.

Lesson #1--> No Matter How Much It Seems Too Good to Be True, It Might Just Be.

Giphy

So a couple weeks go by and already I saw all kinds of guys on the app. The ones from not having anything in their bios to the ones who have their entire life story in about 160 characters. It was a little overwhemling to go through the profiles and I always felt like it was wrong to be on a "dating app". It wasn't until I met someone who told me "I wasn't a hook up" and that "I'm too cute to pass up". We go from tinder dms to IMessage real quick. From Factimes to Real time, I thought something would come out of it. Until I realized how much fate I put in him and how much that wanted reality would only stay in fantasy.

Some guys might just be real gentleman, until they just want to get into your pants. I get that's a part of Tinder to begin with, but its a harsh reality to come face to face with. Going from sweet-heart love in high school to hookup culture in college was a harsh reality check that I didn't expect. It's too good to be true when it seems like a guy is actually intersted in you for you, until he asks if you wanna hookup or be cuffed. I don't even know what I want for breakfast for the next morning, how am I supposed to know that?

Lesson #2--> "I'm Here for A Good Time, Not A Long Time"

Because the GIF of Drake playing Wii tennis didn't work, this was a close second choice.

We get it! You're into rap music! You ain't original buddy. Because I know you're not Drake, Kanye, or Big Shawn. Please be original. Also its kinda hard to take you seriously with a line like that. First impressions matter, like hello, show me the real you and not your favorite rapper.

Its a big swipe left with a line like that. Being original is a good idea because that will make me remember you. If you wanna get some, act like it, and not be like everyone else. We all want to be our selfs to impress the people we desire and to get some traction going, it doesn't help that Drake is your lowkey wingman. i'm not huge into rap music, so is it hard to find lyrics in other kinds of music?

Lesson #3-->"A Jim looking for his Pam"

Michael is my spirit animal

Oh the joys of finding a relationship. Oh how much of a struggle it is to be like all the cute relationship goals pics on instagram and realizing how hard it is to get pics to look like that. The Office is a great show don't get me wrong, but that ain't original either. It's just like before, everyone who is looking for a relationship on Tinder ain't gonna get that far. Tinder is mostly used for hookups, not really for relationships. And for people like myself who does not know what they really want out of the app, it makes things difficult to be open and honest with guys.

What I have noticed with these kind of guys, it is very fast paced with them and they like to get your number very quick. It's hard to meet in the digital age and to find someone to hold you after a long day, but if you're trying to find a relationship, I might suggest another app because Tinder might not work. Hey something might work out, you never know, but don't be all in for the first couple messages before getting the number, becasue I don't feel like going all FBI on you and your social media accounts.

Lesson #4-->Pet Pics are a Yes, Memes are a No

HOW AT THIS ADORABLE BEING!!!!!

upload.wikimedia.org

I love it when guys put their pets on their profiles. I just love seeing doggos all the time and it is a great conversation starter. And I LOVE memes too, but maybe not for your pictures. Memes are used in conversation when you match with someone espcially with funny GIFS and getting to know someone by starting off with a little humor ain't a bad idea. Memes though in the profile is not the greatest idea. I want to get idea about you as a person and showing off your humor could be done in a different way. Just be careful how you do it, because you can really catch someone off guard with some lines that people leave in their bios.

In general, pets are a must and if you wanna get off on the right foot with someone, and espcially a great way to get communication going between two people. With memes though, please be careful when and where they are used. Memes are generally loved by most and are great ways to bring humor into a conversation, but do not make them a profile picture. That ain't a strong move, but a adorable pet is.

Lesson #5--> If the App is causing unnessary anxiety, DELETE IT!!!

Me on a daily basis

Giphy

Tinder is all about having a great time and meeting new people. But if the app is causing more harm than good, then put your mental health first and get rid of it. Or at least turn off your discovery card. I know how hard it can be to meet new people, escipally in a new environment. With a app like tinder and how much you can question your self worth can be a little tricky trying to keep your confidence up. Before I got Tinder, I was a happy single bee with the love of life. Now after having the app for awhile, I realized how much it was effecting my mental health. It never felt right to have the app in the first place and I don't know why I kept using it. But once I deleted it, I felt so much better about myself. Tinder can work for some people, but not for all.

It was great to give it a try for awhile and I have learned alot about myself and some really good life lessons. But in all honesty, if someone wants to try tinder, go for it! You only live once my dude and the world is there for your discovery. Humans are designed to be social beings, and if you wanna be social on tinder, do it. But put yourself first before anyone else.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
