10 Times I Knew I Had The Best Roommates
Bailey Short

Some people are not so lucky their first year of college in the roommate part of things. A lot of people choose to live with their BFFs or they choose to live with a complete random person they have never met. Either way, some have good experiences and some have bad.

We have all heard the story where the high school BFFs room together and end up hating each other or getting paired with some random person that has absolutely nothing in common with you.

My first year at Kansas State I chose to room with two other girls from my hometown. They were not my closest friends, but I had known them pretty much my whole life. We started off living in the dorms (was not for us) and ended up moving to an apartment at semester. I would not have wanted to live with any other girls my first year at KSU and here are 10 reasons why:

1. Fun trips

Nashville? What? How fun would that be? So about a month into the school year, it was football season and the Cats were headed to Nashville. So about a week or two before the game, my roomies and I decided we were going to drive the eight hours to Nashville to cheer on the Cats (s/o to my mom for also going). We ended up having such a good time (even though the Cats lost). It will definitely be a trip we will all remember.

2. Football games

Football games were always something to look forward to on the weekend. Although I only spent a couple actually with my roommates (I am more of the get on the front row love football so much type of girl and they are more of the tailgating type). I did, however, get one of my roommates to come with me on the front row one game, it was so much fun.

3. Always there to share the stresses

We definitely have had our share of stresses over the year. First semester, me and one of my roommates were in this class together and let's just say it was not a strong subject for either of us, but we were always there for each other to help with assignments and studying (even though we still failed the tests).

4. Always down to get ice cream

Whether we are stressed about our classes or we just failed another exam we are always down to get ice cream. Mainly McFlurrys, but we will settle for just about anything.

5. The craziness

Crazy does not even begin to describe us, like at all. For those people who know us, you know all too well how crazy we can get.

6. Puppy chow @ all hours of the night

As I am sitting here writing this article my roommate is in the kitchen making puppy chow for the third time this week (it is Wednesday).

7. Having a piece of home

A lot of people like to branch out and live with knew people their freshman year of college. People say we do not meet as many people and we are just living in high school, but we actually meet a ton of different people and still have different friend groups.

8. Working out/going on diets

This line is actually a joke. Well kind of anyways, we tried. At the beginning of the second semester, we decided we were going to be healthy and workout and eat right. This lasted all of about two weeks.

We went to the gym and sort of ate healthily. Well after that failed we decided to try dieting. One of my roommates and I decided we would go on a jello diet. For those of you who do not know a jello diet is where all you eat is nothing but jello.

That lasted all of about one day. We have now decided to go on a squeezable applesauce diet, so stay tuned.

9. Dance/singing parties in the dorms

We have not done it much since moving over to the apartment, but in the dorms, we would have all types of jam sessions. We are talking JB, the High School Musical soundtrack, Hannah Montana, and basically any other type of music related to those. One night we even purchased the Justin Bieber movie, watched it, and then jammed out.

10. Someone to always cheer you up

It does not matter if you are having a good or bad day, these girls always know how to cheer you up.

I would not trade my first-year roomies for anything. Whether we were getting ice cream, making puppy chow, going on extreme diets, or taking long road trips to cheer on the Cats, we always made sure to have a good time. We have made so many great memories this year. These two will truly be some of my best friends for life. Love you both so much!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
