Time Zones, Different Roads
Military relationships are never easy. You can’t see, text, or call them while they are at basic training. Writing is really the only way to communicate with your person. When you get that first phone call, your heart starts racing and your hands are trembling. You get so excited to tell them everything that is going on in your life and you only have 10 minutes for both of you to speak.. Getting letters is the best part about your day, all you can do is smile. For me, I am a freshman in college and he left for basic training before school started. We are in different time zones and on different roads. There is a song, “Home Is You” by Megan and Liz Mace. This song is about their relationships as sisters, but can be interpreted for anyone. In the lyrics it says, “Time zones, different roads, If I ever lose my way I'm not alone. One will do but we're better off as two. 'Cause home isn't a place, home is you”. This song describes our relationship to a T. We are in different time zones and on different roads (military/college). I know if I’m ever lost, I can count on him to be there for me. As a couple we bring the best out of each other. Most importantly, he is my home. Without him, I do not feel that warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you come home. I am beyond proud of everything he has accomplished and how hard he has worked to get to where he is now. That is what makes this journey worth wild. I cannot wait till graduation.
