Finally, it is over. Donald Trump pulled off the David Vs. Goliath upset to win the crown of 45th President. In his victory speech, he said "I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans, and this is so important to me." It was obvious that no matter what happened, a large number of the population was going to be unhappy. This election was clearly unlike any election we have ever seen. This election has caused a big division in the country, but I strongly think it is time that we let bygones be bygones. When Donald Trump first announced he was running for president, many people laughed at the notion of a reality star running this nation. Well, look at what happened. I think, in a sense, the presidency is becoming like a homecoming court. It is a popularity contest, and its all about who can get the most people on their side, NOT necessarily who has the best ideas whatever they may be. As Obama serves his last 2 months in office, here are some reasons why it is crucial we come together.
1. Other Countries
If other countries see the battling within the United States, they could see an opportunity to take advantage. Russia is a huge example. While Putin has said that he can see a relationship build between Russia and the USA with Trump in office, it could be his way in. Also, if things don't go as planned and the USA continues to rip itself in two, other countries may see a vulnerable nation. The United States needs to remain a strong united whole. Remember when Obama was elected in 2008, some people thought that it was bad and the country was going into turmoil. Well, it was a smooth transition, and here is to hoping it can be the same way again.
2. Final Result
This isn't the WWE. There won't be a huge shock and announcement coming that Hillary was actually the winner, or that the tides have been turned. It is going to stay this way until 2020 unless something EXTREME happens. It is something that we have to live with, so we might as well remain a strong united nation. Trump obviously said some and did some bad things, but remember that Hillary did too. Nobody in this world is perfect, and Trump has not even held office yet. The least we can do is give him a chance to prove his worth. He DID say he was going to do all these great things in June of 2015, and HE DID THEM ALL. You have to give credit to Donald for doing these things he promised he would do.
3. Ultimate Control
Republicans have overtaken the house. They have majority in the White House, Senate, and Congress. This means that laws, bills, etc. may actually PASS now. It took Obama many tries countless times to get things by the house. Now with only 1 party in control, there might actually be change. As a nation, we need to unite and make it a POSITIVE change. How about things like dropping common core, lowering education costs, and less things like deporting people or racially/sexually discriminating against them. We have a much greater chance at success working as a team instead of rivals.
In the end, Donald Trump and his Republican Party will take over the White House. While not who the Republican party wanted at first, I don't see them complaining now that they hold the power. When it comes down to it, the Republican party is looking like it is UNITING instead of the predicted breakdown, and I hope our country does the same. As a Hillary supporter from Day 1, congratulations Mr. Trump, you won the presidency (although Hillary DID receive more votes), now bring us together as a whole nation, and make America great again.
