At this point in the year, everyone is taking time to be more outwardly thankful to those blessings in their lives, and I am all for this gesture, but why do we wait until the fourth Thursday of the eleventh month to proclaim our thankfulness?
Don't get me wrong here, this is in no way to shame those who have chosen to express their thanks to the important things in their lives this week, this isn't to do that at all. This is to encourage us to look at every week and every month as opportunities to be grateful and thankful for the blessings in our lives.
I feel like in today’s society (omg I sound like my grandparents), I find it so easy to get caught up in myself. And I truly feel like many of us deal with this problem. It is so easy to become self-serving and with so many people practicing this behavior, it has become the norm. And I have recognized that my selfish behaviors has made me become neglectful of those around me that help me everyday.
So today, I choose to be thankful. Tomorrow I will choose to be thankful and that Thursday when turkey is the main entree, I will again choose to be thankful. But in addition to this Thanksgiving week, I will challenge myself to be more outwardly thankful all the time. Let us not only give thanks when the time is convenient but when thanks is to be given.
Happy Turkey Day!!
