Take Time to Make A Personal Mission Statemenet

Companies, industries, organizations, and universities have mission statements. Mission statements are statements that clearly define and summarize someone or something's values and goals.

When organizations have these statements, not only does it help show their customers exactly what they will be getting involved with, but it also holds that particular organization accountable to fulfilling their desired intentions.

There's no guarantee that everything always turns out as planned, but by formulating these guidelines, there is a higher possibility of achieving goals and fulfilling aims to the best of one's ability.

Well, I think it's time we each make an effort to craft our own mission statements as individuals taking on this big and crazy world.

In the hustle and bustle that is life, times can become trying and test our strengths. Holding on to who we are and who we want to be can become challenging amid the pushing and pulling of a demanding society.

Knowing who we are, and having a clear identity and rocking it with full confidence is by no means a piece of cake. In fact, at times it can be a piece of s***. But this is exactly what makes life so unique.

As human beings it is in our nature to want to understand. But, nothing should be understood. It's a waste of time to figure things out when things go astray anyways. But the one thing we can do to ease our desires to comprehend, is to start internally. The moment we understand ourselves and what we want our goals and values to be, the easier time we will have accepting life for what it is despite its always unpredictable whims.

So, I challenge you to go and read some of your favorite organization's, university's, or company's mission statements. Take note of things that really stick out to you, things that you too might personally want to embody.

Also think of all of those individuals in your life who have tremendously impacted you in insurmountable ways. Write down qualities about them that you would like to strive to make stronger in yourself.

Think about ways you want people to describe you when you're not around. Think about how you want to be remembered. Think about things you can do or ways you can act that might make you stand with your shoulders back and your head a little higher.

With these starting points, you should be well equipped to write your personal mission statement. Once it is written, make sure you go back every once and awhile to re-read it, edit it if need be, and check in with how well you are living by your own words.

Most importantly, trust yourself that you will and can do this!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
