1. Be Present in Class
This doesn't just mean attendance, this means actually being fully attentive in class and actively participating. This goes out to those who bring their laptops to class. Just because you may have heard this lesson before from another class, doesn't mean you switch tabs and go to your Facebook. Be Attentive. Whether that is writing down notes while the professor is speaking or asking them questions, it is very important to pay attention in class because this will help with your time management woes, surprisingly.
2. STOP PROCRASTINATING
I am so very guilty on this one! If you are so lucky enough to get a week to complete an assignment, DON't take advantage of it! Get the assignment done literally the moment you have free time that night. Currently as we speak, I am preparing myself to spend my whole Sunday completing homework assignments because I waited till the last minute! Help you sanity just a little bit by stopping the procrastination habit.
3. Use a Planner
Don't let exams and assignments be a surprise to you. Buy a simple planner, so that you can keep track of important tests and homework assignments that weigh heavily on your grade. When you first buy the planner, take the time to go to the calendar section and mark down important dates and be sure to write your practices or meetings in as well. Not knowing what is going on everyday is not going to help you out or your stress levels.
4. Stop being a People Pleaser
Know your limits. Do not take on too many things at once, because in the end you will disappoint more people than you have pleased because you had to drop out of so many commitments. If you want to help some people out with their homework, sure go ahead but don't DO their homework for them. You have to focus on your own success first before you worry about somebody else's. People may be upset at first because you told them no; hey whatever, tell them that your success and your grades are more important than helping you pass your classes.
Time Management is definitely one of those things that you can figure learn on your own or you can figure out the hard way, which isn't always a good thing. Don't let multiple F's on assignments be the reason why you get your act together and start doing things proactively. If your school has Time management workshops, do not be ashamed to go, do something for yourself and your sanity and go to the workshop to learn more about time management. You will thank me in the long run, trust me.
