There is always some good music out there, but early 2000s were special. Songs written during those years still sound fresh but, what’s more important, they have meaning, quality, and diversity radio nowadays could only dream of. So let’s turn the engine of our time machine on and remember the best songs of the first decade of 21 century!
2002 was the year when summer didn’t hurt Adam Levine. That June Maroon 5 released unforgettable album Songs About Jane which included one of the sweetest ballads in music history — "She Will Be Loved."
Back to 2002 again! Matchbox 20 just released the track "Unwell" which recently got a second life thanks to the show iZombie, which featured the song in its recent season finale. This song just has to be on every playlist because sometimes we all feel “just a little unwell.”
There was a time when gothic and emo rock flourished! It brought us Evanescence and their debut studio album Fallen. The lyrics for "Bring Me Back to Life" are still in my head even after all these years. I guess I’ve just fallen for this song once and for all.
Speaking of rock, less known than Evanescence but equally brilliant glam rock band Cinema Bizarre released its most famous single "My Obsession" in 2009. The band went on hiatus just a year later and never came back on stage. I am still mourning.
Back in 2008 Eric Hutchinson sang "Rock&Roll," and it became an ear worm you just can’t forget. Awesome, upbeat song, which is pretty easy to sing in Karaoke.
Once upon a time people rapped about things other than booty.
We kept up with Kardashians less and listened to Avril Lavigne more. Her songs always hit too close to home. Avril was basically our long-distance best friend.
In 2009 One Republic did not send million copies of their album. Band’s second album Waking Up was not promoted as heavily as Native (third album), yet the album had some of the best songs ever written by Ryan Tedder.
Remember those golden days when Justin Timberlake was a singer rather than an actor? He was a very big deal and so was Nelly Furtado. Also Timbaland always reminded us about himself with a new hit every other month. In 2007 these three people got together and recorded a simple but catchy song "Give It to Me."
Believe it or not but there was a time when Rihanna’s songs had social commentary, and "Love the Way You Lie" with the one and only Eminem is the best example.
So can we bring good music back?
