Time Is Of The Essence

6

Do I miss Oxford? Of course I miss the fun and friends I have found in my two years at Ole Miss, however,  I have come to the realization that staying at home is not so dreary and dreadful as it may seem. Although you might be bogged down with summer school, a job, or an internship, there are other perks of being home such as friends and family to entertain and cheer you on along the way to success. Just take a second and think, before you know it summer will be gone and you will be starting the school year or a new chapter of your life.

I am going to be a junior in the fall, yet it continues to be unbelievable to me. We have gone through this cycle since we were in pre-K. We yearn for summer,  then in less than two weeks we (at least college students) wish for school to begin again. Why do we wish away time so often? We all feel inclined, at some point, to know our future before it happens. It is only natural for us to be curious about what is to come. However, we have to remind ourselves that everything does not always happen as planned, yet everything happens for a reason. Sometimes we just have to stop, breathe, smell the roses and appreciate what surrounds us in our life.

Being home with family and old friends might be a thing of the past or something you loathe, but I love catching up with friends and family members I have not seen in months, or even years. They might have talked your ear off at the Memorial Day cookout, but you still love them no matter what. Not to mention, they might have a few funny tales or words of wisdom to tell you about their college experiences that dramatically resemble some of your most enchanting and “proud” college moments. You might even find some striking similarities between your new college friends nd your loved ones at home.

I advise everyone to do several things this summer. Be sure to balance time between friends and family and maybe even sacrifice a few nights out at the bar to attend family festivities. You will not regret managing your time between the two because it is amazing how fast time passes. We must savor each moment, especially with those closest to our hearts at home.

Hope you all are having a great summer!

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

The Belchers hold the key to a better life.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.
