Time is a funny thing. One week is seven days, one day is 24 hours, one hour is 60 minutes, and one minute is 60 seconds. The world thinks it understands time because it mathematically has defined the amount allotted for each moment. But that’s what makes me laugh about time: it isn’t confined to numbers.
People say, “Time flies when you’re having fun!” all the time, and this phrase has always amazed me. How on Earth can time go by faster if it is all the same allotted amount? How can one minute go by faster than another if they are all 60 seconds?
But as I have grown older, I noticed that it isn’t so much about mathematical time nor the moments happening around me, but rather my heart that decides the speed of time. If I have a broken outlook on life, time seems to haunt me. There either isn’t ever a good amount to get things done, or time taunts me with how slowly it goes by. Yet, if I have immutable joy, everything is always perfectly timed and nothing is left undone.
Here’s why. God’s timing is perfect, and when we align our time with His, nothing can be left behind, nor hurried along. We will always have just the right amount of time to do something, to spend with someone, or simply enjoy life. The two biggest lies the devil will tell are that you are not good enough or you are good enough. Why do I bring this up in discussion of time? Because Satan wants you to believe you don’t deserve God’s time, you are not worthy of it, or that you don’t need it, because you are too busy with other, better things.
It is imperative to remember God’s time is a precious gift to us. He gave us His time because He loves us deeply, and He wants us to join in communion with Him. So no matter how much you have to do, or what you have to do, forget your time and remember you have the eternal God in pursuit of your heart.
God is always present, and always near; there is nowhere He is not, and no one He is not with. Satan will always try to tear you down…but only if you give him the time of day to do so. Therefore, give only to God your time, and return the gift He gave to you: time here on Earth.
