Time to Get Out of that Funk

Some people catch a cold, some fall in a funk

For the last couple of months, I have stopped writing and feeling uninspired by everything. I basically fell into a rut, and I continued to dig myself more into, rather than building myself out. It got to a point where I kept pushing back deadlines and finding excuses for myself. An insecurity started to mold itself around my ability to articulate the right words. My inspiration had dried out of my palette that once held every word. And then I just woke up one day and stepped back from my situation, and realized what I needed to do. I couldn't keep up this facade and it would be okay to just stop doing something I loved.

But I'm sure we have all had a few days like these, where something just seems off. We all have a point in which we start to feel like our lives are so routine, we forget about the little things that make us happy and filled with so much life. So it's always good to start back at square one.

A great place to begin is finding a spot that fits for you. Whether that means going outside and really noticing the vibrant colors of the world around you. Or staying indoors in a cozy place, while you play some of your favorite tunes. Take time to let your mind wander and understand the energies around you. But mainly focus on the energy you want to radiate. We can't always be the nostalgic kid waiting for someday; because someday is today and it won't come any other day.

Check how you are doing physically, mentally, and emotionally. Are you getting enough hours of sleep? Are you eating things that will give you nutrients? Your body is working really hard throughout the day and if you are not going to take care of it properly; it will start to lose it's natural energy. So make time specific to eating something good and fulfilling. Mentally distress yourself from anything that is cluttering your thoughts. Write them out, talk to someone about them, or just start to do the tasks you have been telling yourself you will get around to. Learn your emotional state, and work from there on. If you feel like there are more bad vibes outweighing the good ones, pinpoint what is bothering you. I can't tell you enough how important it is to take care of your overall self. There is only one you, mind, body, and soul; so do something every day that will make you the best you, you can be.

Surround yourself with good company and create some memories to last you a lifetime. The people you choose to have around you can determine the type of person you want to be. If those groups of friends are not helping you better yourself, then you have to come to a level of maturity to leave it behind. It's not at all selfish, people just grow apart and sometimes it's people that we leave that will teach us the most about ourselves.

Take responsibility for who you want to become, you always have the ability to change what you don't like. This funk or gray area you are currently in, is not forever. Take up different perspectives and fit accordingly. There isn't anything wrong with where you are right now, it's also important to have times of reflection. Give yourself some time and you will end up radiating brighter than before.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
