Lately, all over social media, I've seen all sorts of negativity. From the James Charles scandal to the abortion bans and climate change, the world feels like it's in shambles.
Forget about the YouTube drama for a second, it's really not important. We shouldn't be inserting ourselves into the petty drama of people we don't even know personally. Instead of thinking of all the tea that's spilling, think about how trashed Earth is so much, that in 11 years, it's going to be irreversible.
In 11 years, we will never be able to fix our mistakes. In 11 years, planting trees, recycling, and reducing our plastic consumption will not mean anything. Instead of regulating women's bodies, we should worry about the greater picture: there will be no home for our kids or grandchildren if we don't fix our mistakes before these 11 years are up.
Think of how easily the money for the reconstruction of the Notre Dame Cathedral was raised. $1 billion was raised in TWO DAYS. Flint, Michigan still doesn't have clean water. Think of how easily we could fix this if we donated to organizations like The Thirst Project. The Thirst Project helps out developing communities by building freshwater wells for them.
Freshwater is needed for agriculture, to drink, and to bathe. Everyone deserves to have fresh water. If you only donate $25, that's enough to give one person clean water for a lifetime. If you donate $50, that is two people's lives you've changed.
You don't even have to donate money. You can simply change your lifestyle by being more cautious with what you buy. Buy less plastic. Make a compost bin in your backyard. Drive less and carpool more. Use reusable containers. Start having "Meatless Mondays" or consume less dairy.
The lifestyle changes are simple. Yes, they may cost more money at the moment, but in the long run, you're saving money and the environment.
It's time for a change before it's too late.
