Ever since I was a little kid, I have had a deep attachment towards the Harry Potter franchise. My first experience was with the movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the second grade. Ever since then, my love has only grown stronger. Despite Hogwarts not actually being a real place *tears* I have valiantly tried to immerse myself into the wizarding world as much as possible. I've attended Harry Potter World at Universal Studios, had frozen butterbeer (which is the bomb by the way), sorted myself into a house, and so many other things. One of the best ways to get really connected to the Harry Potter franchise is through a website called Pottermore. Here are a few reasons why you should go ahead and sign up.

If you are a Potter fan, then it is imperative that you get sorted into a house ASAP. I mean, how can you live life confidently if you don't know which Hogwarts house you belong to? By signing up on Pottermore, you get to take the official quiz so that the sorting hat can place you in the proper house. This quiz is completely unique and unlike most sorting quizzes you see online these days. The Pottermore quiz often gives you scenarios and you choose how you would act in the given situation. This allows the sorting hat to gain a deeper understanding of the way we think and how we approach the world, which will, therefore, give clues as to which house you belong to. Just don't trust the random online quizzes that put you in a house. Pottermore is the only way to go in terms of accuracy. Plus, once you are in a house you can find people in your community who are just like you and it's AWESOME. By the way, Hufflepuff is still an amazing house despite what many people believe. But that's a whole other story.

Pottermore is also great because it gives us current short stories that were written by J.K. Rowling herself. To be more specific, she has published stories on the website that give potter fans a deeper insight into how America has experienced magic. The upcoming movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, takes place in America - so by giving fans an insight into magical history in the U.S., it allows for a deeper preparation for the movie.

Lastly, the newest addition to Pottermore is that you can take a quiz to find out what your patronus is. Seriously, how cool is that?! Written by J.K. Rowling and resulting in over 100 different possibilities, the quiz has you think of your happiest memory and answer a series of questions about it. Again, similarly to the sorting hat quiz, it asks questions that go into how you perceive the world. It is just so awesome and once again, part of your identity in the wizarding world as well as real life. Who knows, maybe you will have the same one as a Harry Potter character?

All in all, the Pottermore website is a great companion to any Harry Potter nerd. If you haven't signed up yet, now is the time, especially since it's free. So sign up, good luck on your sorting, and have a great time exploring Pottermore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
