The polls have closed and the results are in. I understand we do not like our next President, I understand that we do not like his beliefs, but hatred will not move this country forward. He won, and we have to live with this for the next four years, so lets put our emotions aside and learn to benefit from this by coming together.
Coming together is not protesting Donald Trump and cursing his name and supporters. Hating our president will not show love for one another, it will only show hate.
Coming together is not allowing the dissonance between Republicans and Democrats to grow so vast we accept violence as a method to speak out against each side. This will not teach us to come together, but teach us to avoid conversation at the dinner table.
Coming together is not calling our country sexist, oppressed, homophobic and hostile. This will instill stereotypes into our children, allowing them to think this way about more than their country.
So I ask you, do you want our country to come together based on the hatred of a man, forever being stuck in one place gossiping about what could have been done? Or do you want our country to come together based on the love and acceptance we have for one another, and make it through these four years with as much victory as we can?
That's what I thought.
I am not telling you to shut off your voice and throw away your first amendment. I am telling you to use it in a way that will teach ourselves and others that this is not a time to be sad, but a time for magnificent achievement.
Despite your political belief, religion, race, ethnicity or sexuality, this is a time to accept one another and act as one. Hating our president, Republicans, Democrats and even the electoral college will not move us forward. It starts with us, so lets take action.
