Why TikTok Should Never Be Banned

With the recent news that TikTok could possibly be banned in the United States, it got me thinking about what would happen if TikTok suddenly disappeared from our phones and why it should never happen.

First and foremost, TikTok is a major social media platform that allows creators to show off their many talents and personalities. Between makeup tutorials, cooking videos, musical talents, and so much more, TikTok has really allowed so many individuals to kickstart their careers. For example, the @sm6band really blew up on the app and now have over 1.4 million followers. Sharing their humor and musical talents has surely impacted their career tremendously.

Secondly, the 60-second video platform brings comical relief to just about everyone who clicks on. With so many different personalities created on one app, a smile can be brought to just about anyone's face simply scrolling through the For You Page. I know personally that without TikTok, so many of my hard days wouldn't have ended with a chuckle watching creators like @emmwee and @cheekyboyos.

The app has also allowed people of all ages to debut their talents. Whether it be watching @eddiepdoyle and his grandma at the casino or the world's favorite mom, @iamtabithabrown, whip up some homemade meals, TikTok is easily accessible for all. Most social media platforms have a stereotypical age group, like Facebook is primarily known for the older generations, but TikTok truly caters to everyone. Having such inclusivity is really unique and truly spectacular for a social media app.

TikTok has also allowed store owners and entrepreneurs to gain a following, especially during the pandemic. @jujupgh posts videos daily sharing her witch techniques and her store items to advertise her rare and magical items. Leslie, owner of the store Juju, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, now has over 65k followers on Tikok and counting.

The endless trends that have surfaced through TikTok have even boosted record sales for celebrities. Doja Cat, Jason Derulo, Julia Michaels, and so many other celebrities had their songs first debuted on this app before even being played on the radio.

Behind the scenes of the 60-second videos, the company has created over 2,000+ jobs in the United States, as stated by the creator of TikTok in her latest video when she announced that the app is not being canceled and that they are here to stay. This simple message surely eased so many minds, as TikTok is surely a favorite for all.

Essentially, one single app has opened so many doors for so many talented and creative people. Without it, our days would be a little dimmer with a lot less laughs.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
