10 Reasons to visit Tijuana, Baja California

Many people hold misconceptions about what Tijuana, Mexico is like. First off, it is the border city of San Diego, California. Founded in 1889, now the home of 3 million people. I was born and raised in San Diego, and my family lives in Tijuana, so I have experienced the best of both worlds. The most common misconception about Tijuana is that it is a scary, dangerous and ghetto place. The truth is, there are “ghetto” areas in every city, whether it is Tijuana, France, or Los Angeles! Do not miss out on the beauty of Tijuana just because of what people tell you about it, or what you see on the news. There is so much culture and beauty in this city and on every corner you can learn something new. If you are looking for the perfect vacation destination, Tijuana is the place for you! (Especially if you love food!) I’ll let these pictures do the talking.

1. Tepoznieves

Here, you can find over one-hundred ice cream flavors ranging from lemon, mango, watermelon, and even a rose-petal flavor.

2. Las Rocas, Rosarito

This hotel is the perfect place to enjoy the beach and some amazing seafood. Also, for all you surfers, the waves are perfect for surfing in the summer.

3. Tijuana Tacos

Absolutely nothing compares to the taste of authentic TJ tacos! (Sorry, Taco Bell) You can find a taco stand on every corner like this one called: Taconazo.

4. Street Art

Tijuana is full of talented artists who use their gift to paint the city with inspiration. This quote translates to: Live your life!

5. Tijuana is full of vibrant flowers that decorate walls, making driving and walking around the city a pleasant experience.

6. Cecut

This round building is a cultural museum where concerts are held, art galleries are presented, and also has an IMAX movie theatre inside!

El Cubo

On the other side of Cecut is a modern building called El Cubo which holds cultural events, and presents a wide range of art to the public.

7. Go to any taco stand or restaurant, and you will find fresh meat like this Adobada being cooked to perfection right before your eyes.

8. Playas de Tijuana

Here in Playas, you can enjoy the beach and also get to stand right on the border of Tijuana and San Diego: the experience is surreal.

While you are in Playas, make sure to try a famous raspado

9. Puerto Nuevo

If you are a fan of fresh lobster, and homemade flour tortillas, Puerto Nuevo is the place for you. Not to mention the amazing view you have while you eat.

10. Last but not least: Pan Dulce.

This sweet bread is the most popular dessert here in Tijuana and it tastes like heaven.

Hopefully, these sights and foods will make you want to visit Tijuana. This city truly is a place that you will want to experience in your lifetime. Come and relax, or surf on the beach. Come eat some authentic street tacos and delicious desserts. Come visit the many museums and see the work of talented Mexican artists...your dream destination awaits.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
