19 year old rapper, Desiigner, known for sounding very similar to Future in his song Panda, has recently released a new song called Tiimmy Turner. Panda became popular quickly with its catchy lyrics and danceable beat. However, Desiigner has admitted to deeper meanings in his new project.

Originally, Tiimmy Turner was a freestyle rap that within weeks became a real track. Timmy Turner is a character from the popular Nickelodeon TV show from the early 2000s, Fairly Oddparents, that has two magical “fairly oddparents” that can grant his every wish. In interviews, Desiigner has compared himself to this character because of his young age and how sometimes wishing for things you do not need can lead to bad consequences as did happen in the TV show.

On this track, the young rapper discusses many societal issues. “Timmy Timmy Timmy Turner he been wishing for a burner” alludes to the pressures that young children have in this day and age to be tough and have a gun “to kill everybody walking.” Desiigner says that he has experienced these pressures however, he realizes that they will only get him to Hell or “in the furnace.” Another issue he suggests will get someone’s “soul in the furnace” is the women that are attached to him and other rappers just because of their fame. He says in an interview with Highsnobiety: “because I know if I wish for the burner and if she do anything for the fame, then I’d go to hell.”

Critics have been very receptive to this song so far, suggesting that it is much better than “Panda,” because of its more meaningful lyrics. The public has also showed positive support for this new riff. While Desiigner has also included many conceited and derogatory lyrics on this song, his other themes have outweighed the negative ones. This is a step forward in his art from his first hit “Panda,” with not much more than one verse. With its catchy hook and deep subject matter, “Tiimmy Turner” is sure to continue with its success and become a hit.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
