You touched me.
Ripples greeted my skin;
A gentle caress the wind couldn’t touch.
We were too close.
Your eyes peered into mine--
I looked away,
But you drew me back
like water pulsing on the shore.
And now I can’t think
of what I might’ve saw in those eyes
that held me captive for so long.
You became shallow.
I could no longer swim freely
In the depths of your arms
because there wasn’t enough substance
to keep me afloat.
When I treaded water,
You let me sink.
My chest was screaming
for you to let me in
But you wouldn’t--
And I drowned.
My lifeless body came to you
and you never shed a tear.
You just looked at me and whispered
“Forever and always dear”
My tidal wave--
My tsunami--
You destroyed me to the core.
Yet I would still give anything
to breathe you in once more.
