This past Thursday night, the Virginia Tech Hokies took on the Miami Hurricanes in college football. Virginia Tech fans were nervous about the outcome of this game considering their recent loss to Syracuse, however the football team did not disappoint this week. In the first quarter of the game, Virginia Tech took the lead, and the team maintained on top throughout the game. This Thursday night game was one to remember, for a few reasons.
1. ESPN Feature of Enter Sandman
Virginia Tech is known for having one of the greatest football entrance's, which ESPN's SportsCenter recognized this past week. ESPN featured students and fans jumping to Metallica's "Enter Sandman" in Lane Stadium on Thursday night. The Enter Sandman entrance song is a Virginia Tech tradition, which some students have gotten so excited about that their jumping has broken bleachers in the student section of the stadium.
2. Perfect Fall Weather
Last season, many Virginia Tech home football games were played in the pouring rain. This season we have had luck on our side and the weather has been nice for all of the home games thus far. Thursday, however, was the perfect mix of sunshine and warm, crisp air for a Fall football game.
3. Hokie Comeback
At the start of this season, Virginia Tech was not ranked in AP's Top 25 College Football list, however as the season has progressed, so has the team's ranking. Even though the Hokies have not been able to maintain their spot on the list, an appearance itself is progress from last season.
4. Football Game Under the Lights
Nothing beats a good football game under the lights. Night football games, which only occur once a season, always bring new energy and excitement to the stadium. It is as if the football players have a spotlight on them and all focus is on the field. Then, the fireworks that start and end the game light up the stadium and leave the fans in awe.
5. Victory
Finally, nothing makes football fans or players happier than a win does. After last Saturday's loss to Syracuse, Virginia Tech fans were ready for the team to pick back up on their winning streak. The football team did not let their fans down, with a final score of 37-16.
