Curiosity has overcome me. A simple question has become my main focus. More often than not, I have questions that come up that I can't help but just ponder on. Sometimes I never seems to get an answer and I'm just left to speculate. Other times, I ask the question to people and they just kind of shrug it off. So, let's try it this way. What do you think is a more popular socialization method: Pokemon Go or fantasy football?
Now, some of you may be thinking well that is obvious. It would clearly be....and that's when I ask, "Is it really?" Think about it, how often, before the updates were installed, would you see or hear about people meeting new people over Pokemon Go? People would go out in groups, sometimes irresponsibly but that is besides the point, and just talk about who they had caught, what their strongest was, and what was the one that got away.
Let's look at fantasy football, now. An online league where you create an all-star team and play against friends. Whether you play it or not, a lot of people tend to take this very seriously. Some even resort to betting money on whether they will win or not. Outside of the league(s), strangers will talk about who they drafted, who they traded, and who the idiot of the league is. They will mention their best players, their weakest players, and who almost fell to them in the draft. In many ways than one, fantasy football is Pokemon Go.
So, given a social situation, which game would be talked about more? I would like to say Pokemon Go, but anymore I'm not so sure on that. After these updates hit, the game has lost some popularity. While football is kind of a niche market, Pokemon Go was a global sensation when it dropped. I'm sure people might still play fantasy football in other countries because it is the NFL, but I don't think it would have been enough to be over Pokemon Go. Anymore, especially since it is football season, I think it would be closer than people would imagine.
One thing is for sure, both of these topics are big topics anymore. I'm sure you are bound to hear about both in your daily work week. However, questions exist for a reason, just like competition does. So I ask again, which one is being talking about in social situations? I'll let everyone have fun debating this. In the meantime, I have classes to attend. See you all in December!
