Finals have just ended and it is safe to say that most of the allotted studying time was spent watching Netflix rather than memorizing formulas or starting that essay that was assigned last month. The sad thing is, after trying to convince yourself to re-watch all of the “Grey’s Anatomy” seasons, you have finally decided you are running out of shows to procrastinate with. My solution to that? Throwbacks. “Full House” has finally made a sequel but what a lot of us really want is for our favorite 90’s shows to make a comeback (and a few that aren't from the '90s, but too good to forget). So, now that finals are over and you have had time to actually finish that essay, maybe the TV networks can start granting our wish of putting these throwback gems back on air.
"Sabrina the Teenage Witch" (1996 to 2003).
This show was always on when I was getting ready for school in the morning. It was part of my morning routine and I cried when they stopped playing it regularly on television. Sabrina can still be found casting spells on random websites but if you’re looking for it on cable, you’ll have to have a lot of luck.
"Chalk Zone" (2002 to 2008).
For some reason, a lot of my friends don’t remember this one. "Chalk Zone" took you on the adventures of a boy who possessed magic chalk that took him to the world where things that are erased go. He could draw himself a plane or a dog. He could make anything he wanted to with this magic chalk as he fought off little kids’ dreams. But as whiteboards came into schools, this TV show slowly faded out. Technically, this isn't from the 1990s but we all know the '90s weren't over until 2005.
"Kim Possible" (2002 to 2007).
What’s the sitch? Again, not from the '90s but this series was the most memorable thing of my childhood. Running around with my friends pretending that Shego was after us and dreaming of owning a naked mole rat made up about 30 percent of my after school activities. Sitting down and watching “Kim Possible” with gogurt in hand is something every child should be able to experience in their lifetime.
"Sister, Sister" (1994, 1999).
I must admit, this was not my favorite TV show as a kid. But when a rerun comes on once in a blue moon, this show brings me back to the times my friends would force me to watch it. May not be my favorite but it is definitely a show that should come back.
"Dexter's Laboratory" (1996 to 2003).
Dexter’s Laboratory set the foundation for what is now a Top List Hit: “The Big Bang Theory”. For anyone a fan of both of these shows, it just goes to prove that we can never grow out of our inner child.
"Hey! Arnold" (1996 to 2004).
This show is a lot more inappropriate now that the '90s kids understand those innuendos. I would not suggest this show for kids but it would still be fun to re-experience Helga and Arnold’s awkward love connection.
"3rd Rock From the Sun" (1996 to 2001).
This one is definitely not recommended for kids. But this show is a classic that helped initiate a lot of the current alien/human fandoms out there. This show also gets brownie points for the ever famous John Lithgow and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
"The Nanny" (1993 to 1999).
This show caught me the moment Daniel Davis showed up in his sarcastic manner. As I outgrew the cartoon shows and moved into a more “mature” group of shows, this became my favorite. Unfortunately, even as I was growing into this show, it was being weeded off air and was only given the 3 AM time slots. Thankfully, this show is still playing and has made a bit of a come back!
"Drake and Josh" (2004 to 2007).
From the first “Hug me brothah” to the very last episode, the adventures of Drake Parker and Josh Nichols entertained thousands of elementary school children. Even though after the show ended we had Miranda Cosgrove and Crazy Steve to carry us on in “iCarly,”nothing can replace the original.
Bonus: The old "SpongeBob."
That new stuff is just weird.
