Now that I am about to be a sophomore in college, I feel like I spend a lot of time looking back on the things I have been a part of and what I have grown up around. One thing I find super interesting to revisit is the "popular" music of my youth. What used to be considered "popular" music isn't even comparable to what we listen to now. As I look back on things, I decided to pull out my old IPod nano (remember those?) and check out some of the relevantly popular songs to everyone my age that I thought were awesome at the time.
Here is a little throwback playlist for you:
1. Bedrock - Young Money
If you could rap the Nicki Minaj part you were considered pretty cool.
2. Bulletproof - La Roux
When techno and dubstep were popular. More recently popular for its debut in Pitch Perfect.
3. Fireflies - Owl City
Wow, this was so catchy, it was almost annoying.
4. Gives You Hell - The All-American Rejects
The anthem for anyone you hated. You also were too scared to say hell, so you replaced it some stupid word that was acceptable to sing in front of your parents.
5. How Low - Ludacris
The only part you actually knew was the squeaky voice saying, "How low can you go?"
6. Imma Be - The Black Eyed Peas
Again with the repetitiveness, absolutely impossible not to get this one stuck in your head. Honestly, what was this song even about?
7. Justin Bieber - Baby, Eenie Meenie, and One Less Lonely Girl
Anything by the Biebs was on replay; these were just super fresh at the time. How did I forget about good old Sean Kingston?
8. Ke$ha - Blah Blah Blah, Dinosaur, TiK ToK and Your Love Is My Drug
So many of us looked up to her at the time. Yikes. I'm glad she turned into a respectable role model, but honestly this music was absolute trash.
9. Kiss Me Through The Phone - Makell Bird
You were probably texting your crush and sending selfies of you kissing them through the phone jamming to this one.
10. Lady Gaga - LoveGame, Paparazzi and Telephone
She was very unique and probably more intriguing than her music. Once again, I'm not sure how great this music really was.
11. Lip Gloss - Lil Mama
Five words. What you know 'bout me?
12. Love The Way You Lie - Eminem ft. Rihanna
You probably knew every single part. This was everyone's rap jam.
13. Miley Cyrus - The Climb, Fly On The Wall, I Miss You, Party In The USA, 7 Things and When I Look At You
You miss the old Miley? I know. Oh, the memories.
14. Need You Now - Lady Antebellum
The relationship anthem of its time.
15. No Hands - Waka Flocka Flame ft. Roscoe Dash and Wale
You definitely knew every single word. You rapped it from the heart. There are just too many good parts to single out one.
16. OMG - Usher ft. Will.I.Am
You make me wanna say?
17. Riding Solo - Jason Derulo
When you were single and doing you.
18. Stanky Legg - GS Boyz
Yes, we did the stanky legg; embarrassing enough.
19. That’s Not My Name - The Ting Tings
It was just so catchy we couldn't help but love it.
20. Turn My Swag On - Souja Boy
We thought we were the shit becuase of this song; let's face it.
