If You Want to Start Thrifting, Here's Your Sign

Recently, I've really been loving to thrift and up-cycle old clothes. I have been watching thrift flip videos on YouTube for as long as I remember, but never thought I was crafty enough to do things like this. I decided, though, that I would give it a shot, because clothes from the thrift store were relatively cheap and I could customize them the exact way that I wanted to. So, I took a trip to the thrift store and it felt like vsco-girl-meets-trendy-vintage paradise. I sorted through clothes for what seemed like days but was actually about 2 hours. I found so many things, that I realized the thrift store is the best thing to ever happen, for many reasons.

First off, it really helps the environment. Reusing clothes, fabrics, accessories, and shoes help reduce the massive amounts of waste that are produced from the fashion industry. Also, when I go to the thrift store, I find a lot of vintage clothes, and when I buy them, I like to make them my own by cutting the hem off, adding some embroidery, or other small changes. Second, it really is a good investment when spending less money on clothes, because then you get more "bang for your buck". Now you have more of a reason to go on a major shopping spree.

If these reasons aren’t enough for you, then here’s one last one. It’s good for the soul. Buying stuff for reasonable prices and realizing that it’s second-hand gives me a good feeling, like I am making a difference in the world, by reusing clothes and helping the environment, even if it isn’t a big change. I love thrifting so much, and if you were looking for a sign to start, then here’s your sign.

College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
