I am finally approaching one year of weight loss. It has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have had my ups and downs (and still do), but I am headstrong and have not given up yet! I have overcome so much physically as well as mentally. Clothing sizes are smaller and my strength is greater than ever. Here are three things I have learned with almost one year of weight loss:
1. No, no I am not on a diet, thanks for asking.
Seriously, I am not on a diet. Never go on a diet because it has the word DIE in it. Diets are awful and super restrictive. What has helped me in terms of healthy eating is portion control and watching what I eat. I try to aim for high protein and low carb foods. I also try to aim for 6 small meals a day versus 2-3. I eat A LOT more now that I am trying to lose weight versus not trying to lose weight. Even at losing weight for almost a year, eating habits are still a challenge, especially with timing. Everyone's situation is different and figuring out what works for your particular situation is key in getting results.
2. You are your own biggest critic.
I have learned that you simply do not see results right away. Obsessively looking in the mirror seeing if you lost an inch or so does no good. All good things come with time. It's about the journey, not the destination. Weight loss ultimately is not a loss, however, it is a measure of growth over time.
3. Stop With the Scale! Ugh!
Seriously, don't ever weigh yourself, (not really EVER) but the scale is misleading. Muscle growth is happening as the fat is coming off. Another downside to sitting there and weighing yourself constantly is that it is inaccurate. If you just ate and then weigh yourself, do you really think it is going to be accurate? I think not!
