The 3 Stages Of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a special day all of us here in America love to celebrate. It is full of love, warmth, appreciation, a delicious meal. Most of us celebrate this holiday similarly, so I'm going to take you through the stages we all go through during this day.

The Morning:

Although this is such an exciting day, it’s still so hard for me to get out of bed on Thanksgiving morning. That is, until my mom says, “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is on!” At that moment, I shoot myself out of bed and run downstairs to eat her famous breakfast casserole and watch the parade together. Everyone sits there and watches the awesome performances and our favorite characters float by as creepy, giant balloons.

Then it’s time to get ready. This takes the women in my family about an eternity to do, but we eventually begin the journey to our relatives’ houses. This is a really big moment. You’ve made it from after Halloween until now of not listening to one Christmas song. Finally, it is time. The first album we break out is Mariah Carey’s Christmas album. Can you think of anyone better to kick off the season with? Now because I come from a musical family, the car becomes our stage, and we basically sing as loud as we can and try to hit all of Mariah’s high notes.

Before Dinner:

Finally, you’ve reached your destination to your relatives’ houses. You give 10’s of millions of hugs and catch up on what you missed since you saw each other last. You really are interested in what they are saying, but the only thing on your mind is that freakin’ turkey! Mashed potatoes, stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, and green beans. You’re so ready for that meal to start. You haven’t eaten all day and you wore your loosest jeans. Bring it on!

After Dinner:

After stuffing your face, you literally feel like you’re going to pop. Your stomach feels like you’re four months pregnant with a food baby. However, that won't stop you from grabbing a second or third round. You take pride in that food baby, and if you're as weird as my sister and me, you may even name it.

You kick back, watch some football, take a twenty-minute nap, and then hear one of your relatives yell “dessert!” You hop right out of that cozy chair and grab yo-self some apple, pumpkin, pecan, and any other pie you can find. When your food baby finally grows 2 months bigger, you realize you’ve had enough and now it’s actually nap time.

Unfortunately, it’s time to go home and get all comfortable in bed. But, never fret, because the next day brings sales on sales on sales and Christmas! Just hoping you don’t get too aggressive on Black Friday.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
