Most big cities or towns get excited when a new locally owned, mom-and-pop business opens up. But here in St. Augustine, where every other restaurant and retail store is just that, we get pretty excited when chain restaurants literally everyone else has open up. I remember when Chipotle opened, there was a line around the building for weeks. So here’s just three more chains that need to make their way to our little, historic town.
Einstein’s Bagel Bros:
There have been quite a few mornings I’ve actually almost driven an hour to go to Einstein’s. Back when I lived in Orlando, my mom and I would go every week. The manager knew our orders by heart and would put them in the computer as we walked in the door. Their Santa Fe bagel is probably the best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had the joy of partaking in.
Macy’s:
What town doesn’t have a Macy’s?! The closest one is in Daytona. I mean, sure, we have a Belk, but nothing beats Macy’s. They throw the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade for goodness sake. I used to be able to do all my Christmas shopping in one location. I mean, I still do that, but now I just order everything online which is far less exciting.
Trader Joe’s:
Okay, I know this one I can definitely get some support on. And this one I actually have driven forty-five minutes to go to before. Organic food, low(ish) prices, two dollar wine… what more could you need? I do love our Aldi, but it’s like 5 aisles and my claustrophobia can barely handle it anymore.
It’s up to you, now, St. Augustine. I hope you can meet my demands (I mean, there’s only three). Meanwhile I’ll sit here and eat my locally grown vegetables and locally caught seafood, wearing clothes made by local designers. Patiently waiting in misery.
