As a woman

As an American that is 3/4 Asian 1/4 White

As the daughter of a woman that is by definition an Asian immigrant

As the daughter of a half Asian half white man that looks more Asian than white

As an openly, as of this sentence, queer woman (YAY WOMAN YAY MEN I like both okay yes)

As someone that struggles with mental illness

As someone who has had days where even her dorm room is not a safe space away from misogyny

As someone that fits into the numerous categories that Donald Trump has publicly shamed, spoke out against, and made to feel inferior

I am scared.

I am scared for my safety. I am scared for the safety of my family, my friends, my classmates, for everyone that has felt the hate, bigotry, prejudice, racism or misogyny.

I am scared.

While there is fear in the air right now. It is also a time of realization, one in which we must educate those that see this hate as the right way, that the choices of the minorities belong in their hands, that they do not have the right to run our lives.

Donald Trump may have won the election. He is our president-elect. That is the unfortunate fact for many of us. But we can't let this stop us from fighting for what is right. It is absolutely crucial that we work our hardest to make our voices heard from every corner of this world. While he may have won the election he will not break out spirits.

To my friends who voted for Trump, it was your choice not mine so I will not criticize you, but I will stand for what I believe in and if you don't accept that then please unfriend me.You're allowed to have your opinions and I'm allowed to have mine, so please let me speak my mind without being told I'm wrong, dumb, uneducated or whatever you think.

This is not a time to criticize one another, but rather to band together with those who are willing to fight with you. So please I implore you all that like me do not support Trump and his ideals, to rise up and fight for equality, for diversity, for everyone that has ever been marginalized.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
