When I was tween, I was a hard core Disney Channel fan and loved Miley Cyrus. As I and other millennials have grown, Miley Cyrus has grown with us, and as we change, she changes too. As we all know, Miley Cyrus hosted the VMAS on August 30th and performed her a song off her newest album (which she's selling for free), "Dooo It!"
That same day she also released a music video for it. I didn't know this until I saw someone share it on Facebook. Naturally, I was interested to see what all was in it, and because I didn't watch the VMAS, I was interested in what this song was like as well. This is was my reaction and I'm sure many other people's reactions to the video.
"I wonder what this will be like." From watching her "Wrecking Ball", "Adore You", and "We Can't Stop" videos, we all wonder what "strange" things are going to be in her next videos.
When you hear "Yeah I smoke pot, yeah I love peace/ But I don't give a f**k, I ain't no hippie"
When you realize that 99% of the video is focused on her mouth
When you see glitter gel is being poured all over her face and is in her mouth, you think, "Is that even safe?"
"Okay at least milk is safe to put in her mouth," as milk is the next thing to be poured all over her face as the "Yeah, I smoke pot..." lyrics are repeatedly said.
"Is she even singing?" As auto-tune is on full blast
"I wonder if this is what it's like to be on drugs."
"Caramel (I think) and sprinkles this time. YOU ARE NOT AN ICE CREAM."
"How has she not been arrested for drugs?" As she smokes a joint in the video
"Her teeth are on point though."
As she repeatedly says, "Yeah I smoke pot..", you think, "WE GET IT. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR DRUG USE."
When you realize your face has been in this position the entire time
I do support Miley with her Happy Hippie Foundation. I believe it does great things with helping members of the LGBTQ+ community and homeless youth. But I think we all can agree that this music video is on a whole different level of "strange."
