At the click of a button, Americans have access to an endless amount of mass media. Politics, world news, weather alerts, celebrity gossip, you name it, it's there. I have spent years of my life involved in journalism, and I strongly believe that the media plays a vital role in every American's life. With that being said, whenever I sit down to watch the news I find myself disappointed with the way news stations report the news and the types of information they choose to cover.
1. Is Donald Trump saying something misogynistic (for the billionth time) breaking news?
I think we can all agree, something that occurs twelve times a day is absolutely not breaking news.
2. Why are you reporting your opinions as fact?
*Cough, cough* Fox and MSNBC.
3. Why is all of this coverage so depressing?
Well, that brought my mood down five notches.
4. There is deadly flooding in Texas, new information stating that the EgyptAir plane crash was an act of terror, and for the first time in history, nearly 90% of Americans have health insurance, but by all means lets talk about what Kim and Kanye ate for dinner.
5. Who even are these "special experts" that seem to dominate a broadcast?
I did not know that being the personal maid to the assistant of the former Chief of Staff qualifies you as an expert on the state of the union. Just because a news station calls you a "special expert" does not mean I am going to trust your opinions.
6. Why did you just spend 30 minutes talking about what Marco Rubio tweeted last night, but only 2 minutes on the state of the economy?
We obviously have our priorities straight.
7. How are we supposed to stay informed when news stations main goal seems to be to entertain rather than to report?
The short answer: we can't.
