14 Thoughts You Have While Walking Around New York For A Day That Everyone Can Relate To

Seeing New York was so much fun last fall. My friend and I had one day to see as much as we could and still make our concert that night. I flew in at 9:30 am and our concert was at 7 pm so we had roughly nine and a half hours to see everything we wanted to see. It was really fun but I wish that I had more time to see everything and really experience the city. These are 14 thoughts I had while checking out the Big Apple that I'm sure everyone else who's been to New York can relate to.

1. "My feet hurt so bad, but we have to keep going to see everything."

We did sit down on a bench in Central Park and then again on the red steps of Times Square. I wore shoes with absolutely no support and my whole body suffered from it. For walking 13 miles in one day, you're going to need a good pair of shoes.

2. "Why didn't I bring a t-shirt? I'm so warm and my feet hurt."

I cannot stress enough how important it is to bring a backpack. When you're walking around all day you're going to possibly need a jacket (depending on the weather), money (cash or card - I recommend cash so you can give the street performers money if you want to), snacks so you don't have to buy them (everything is more expensive), water, and a phone charger. I thought it was going to be colder so I wore a sweatshirt but I really should have brought a t-shirt, too.

3. "Why is it so busy? There's literally nothing going on."

media3.giphy.com

Times square is so so busy. There's people everywhere all the time doing nothing.

4. "These performers are so funny, they should be comedians."

media2.giphy.com

Street performers perform in Times Square all the time. My friend and I saw a really funny "performance." These three guys said that they could jump over ten grown men but I don't think they ended up doing it. We had to leave to make it to our concert on time but they were really really funny. Stop and see one when you go!

5. "What time is it?"

6. "My feet hurt."

7. "How can people afford all this?"

media3.giphy.com

When we reached the Upper East Side it seemed like a whole different world than the rest of the city. I didn't see many taxis, more people had chauffeurs and everyone was wearing really expensive looking clothes. It was quite the experience of people looking at us as we were in our sweats and jeans walking around 82nd Street.

8. "That's where Serena van der Woodsen lives!"

media2.giphy.com

We were really excited to see the building where Serena, the character from "Gossip Girl" lived and yes, we did fan-girl a little.

9. "Did that driver just open that door for that little girl? Wait, is he her chauffeur!?"

media1.giphy.com

10. "This is so cool! But there is a lot of people."

media3.giphy.com

The Brooklyn Bridge is slightly over one mile long. There were a ton of people, but that's everywhere in New York City. Some people were just walking it but some were running it too.

11. "Please stop ringing your bike bells at me."

media2.giphy.com

We would be trying to pass people on the bridge and get into the bike lane to successfully pass them but then there would be someone riding their bike in the bike lane and just start ringing their bells at us.

12. "This would be a cool picture."

media.giphy.com

At everything in New York City.

13. "These are barely any grass and trees in New York City besides Central Park."

media2.giphy.com

Central Park is such a random place. Where there's concrete and buildings everywhere, there's just a massive park in the middle of it all. I can't even imagine growing up there and having Central Park as the only "real" outdoors there is.

14. "I'm really going to a concert in Times Square!"

media.giphy.com

This was the end goal of the whole day. We went to see Lecrae and Andy Mineo at the Playstation Theatre. They had a lot of good openers like WHATUPRG, Wordsplayed, and nobigdyl. And it was a GREAT time.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
