Admit it, when you are in class, you are not always devoting 100% of your attention to the lesson. As much as we would all love to be on our "A game" every time we enter the classroom, it is almost impossible to do. No matter how much you love school or learning or your professor, you will pretty frequently find yourself focused on something else. Here are a few thoughts going through most students head whilst in class:
1. "47 more minutes and I can take a nap."
If you have never thought this during class then I applaud you. No matter how much sleep you got last night or how much energy you had before you got to class, but the second class starts, you are just about ready for a winter hibernation. Drink as many coffees and Red-bulls as you'd like, you are still going to be counting down the minutes till you can get back to bed.
2. "I wonder whats for lunch today?"
Food has the ability to make or break your day. A good lunch is going to set you up for success. But, if you get to the cafeteria and they don't have anything you like, your day is practically ruined. Besides a good nap, food is pretty much the highlight of any school day, so it doesn't seem like to much to ask to always only serve all of your favorite meals right?
3. "Okay after this class all I have to do is do laundry, clean my room, go to the store, finish editing my paper, eat dinner, take a shower, and fold all my clothes and then I can relax. Okay that's good. I got this."
Class always seems like a great place to be productive. So why not plan out your day? It is hard to pay attention when you have so much to do. So once you get the planning out of the way, you now feel like maybe you can pay a bit more attention to the lecture.
4. "I literally have no idea what is going on right now."
While you were busy thinking about anything besides the lecture, your professor decided to teach the most important and vital concept of the whole class. Now that you are actually paying attention, you are extremely lost. Which makes it even harder to follow what is being taught. It is a vicious cycle and you always tell yourself that next class you will force yourself to pay attention, but of course it never happens.
