Choosing to take classes in a new country can be very exciting. There are so many places to see, travel, and so many things to do. However, there is a lot of preparation that goes into moving to a completely new location for a semester. Here are a few thoughts students have right before they study abroad.

1. Oh, sh*t this is actually happening.

2. Maybe I can fit one more pair of shoes in my suitcase?

3. Where should I travel?

4. Will I make friends?

5. Hopefully, I can understand the language of (insert place here).

6. How am I supposed to fit 5 months of clothes into 2 suitcases?

7. I’m scared my luggage will get lost.

8. I hope I don't look like a tourist.

9. The drinking age is 18 bless.

10. Hopefully, my host family is nice.

11. Will my roommates and I get along?

12. I don’t want to travel in an airport alone.

13. How am I supposed to find my gates?

14. I cannot wait to go!

15. I am going to travel so much.

16. Hopefully, my classes are easy...

17. I’m going to miss my family and friends so much.

18. I’m ready for my journey to begin!

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
