I, like many other "Gilmore Girls" fans have my opinion on the seventh season. It was the only season with different writers other than Amy Sherman-Palladino and her director husband Dan Palladino. While there are some similarities between the seventh season and the previous seasons, it just wasn't the same. Even before I knew about the change up with the creative team, I still wasn't a fan.
There are a lot of things that I don't like and that I still get mad about almost 10 years after the series wrapped up. I know that Luke and Lorelai's fight happened at the end of season six, with Palladino still at the reins, but did they really have to break up? After all the years building up to their relationship! Nothing makes me more angry than that.
Except that Lorelai went back to Chris. They don't belong together. They never did. Yes, they had a kid together -- and a wonderful kid at that. But it was proven time and time again through previous seasons that they wouldn't work together. Then, they ended up married which just killed the hopeless romantic in me. I know you would think it would be the other way around. It should have always been Luke and Lorelai.
And going back to Luke and Lorelai, something that has bothered me is Luke's daughter April. And, yes again, it was something that Palladino added into the mix in the sixth season, but I'm pretty sure not a single fan of the show was a fan of April. Maybe at first, to show that Luke had a past like Lorelai did. But when it started coming between them, that was taking it too far, or at least it was for me.
Rory and Logan were a great match. I loved them together. I really did. I think I will always wonder what could have been with her and Jess. But Rory and Logan fought for each other and stood by each other even when it was difficult, and that's what love is, isn't it? I like that the new writers continued their relationship as long as they did, but did they really have to end it when Logan proposed? I feel like they would have been great married. They had already withstood the test of time, him being stupid, and a hell of a lot of distance. Why not throw marriage into the mix?
And, then the ending, Luke and Lorelai kissing, I was literally yelling at my television when I watched it. I think it was worse than the cliff they left us on at the end of season five when Lorelai proposed to Luke. At least then, we got closure and an answer. The fans were literally just left there wondering what in the world happened. Or what would come of the kiss.
But, it wasn't just these plot changes that make the seventh season hard to watch, there is just a different vibe about the show. Something just always felt off. The Gilmore magic just wasn't there anymore. But, thankfully, in just a matter of months -- or 63 days, but, who's counting; "Gilmore Girls" will be returning with four 90- minute episodes on Netflix. All the original characters and writers are back, except Edward Herrmann, may he rest in peace. Fans will finally get the answers they have wanted for almost a decade now. And, it isn't just the fans that get the closure they want, but Palladino finally gets the chance to end the show and the character's story lines they way that she wanted to from the beginning, and she's not giving any information about it away.
So, for all the "Gilmore Girls" fans out there, November 25, 2016, mark your calendars, we finally get our answers!
