So everyone is talking about the march that happened the day after Trump's inauguration. I know you're probably sick of reading articles about it so hopefully this makes you at least laugh a little. But everyone keeps asking me why I didn't march and accusing me of being an anti-feminist. "You're a woman with a baby girl! Why are you not a feminist?!" Well actually, I do consider myself a feminist but I didn't feel the need to march that day (obviously, I was wrong). And half the people I know were like, "But Trump is president! Our rights as women are gone now!" And I was like:
Of course now I'm part of the 'everyone' and I'm kinda like..
So ya know... oops. My bad...
I also didn't walk because I have a five month old. And yes, I heard that people took their kids down to march. That's great. Good for them. I didn't. Not really some place I want to take a baby; I wasn't sure it would be safe (with all the craziness in the past year at protests) and lugging a stroller through Chicago while it's packed isn't my idea of a good time. But I do support the people who knew why they were actually marching, explained it to their kids and didn't answer, "It's not too late to stop Trump from getting into office!"
Bro, he's in office. They put him there yesterday...
I asked a lot of my friends why they went to march and got mixed answers. The best answer I got was "to draw attention to the fact that Trump wants to make getting any abortion illegal. He is trying to take away rights to my body and I don't think it's fair." That was an amazing answer! And I got a few of those. Other people gave me answers like, "Because Trump doesn't belong in office!" but when asked why they couldn't give me a real answer, or "Because I deserve as many rights as a gun!". These people are part of the problem and I ignored them.
But the people who marched to support a real cause or draw attention to Trump's plans for a cause, I can understand that. More power to you. This country wouldn't be where we are today without protests!
(That's a protest I think we can all get behind^)
I'm not saying go smash in some windows, but go march with a group of people, hold up signs, pass out flyers; get your point across without destroying local businesses. And for the most part, that was accomplished. Most of the protests that went on that day were in fact very peaceful and I would call the marches across the world a success. To the people who protested the right way; you're awesome! Go you and thank you for marching for my rights and my daughter's rights! I'm sorry I didn't think Trump would stick to his word.
Can I just talk for a minute about how Hilary sent out a thank you tweet to everyone who marched? That was very sweet of her... however, Bernie Sanders was out actually marching. I can't talk much, because I didn't march either but....I was never a huge fan of Hilary or Bernie or Trump. I think we could've found much better people to elect but for some f***ing reason, we decided these people were good enough and ran with it. But at least Bernie actually stood by what he said when he was running and is still fighting. Hilary lost and was all like, "okay, peace out b****es! I'm done pretending to give a sh** now!" But at least one of the presidential candidates stuck to what he said while he was running! (Bernie)
When they announced that the race was basically between Trump and Hilary I realized that we had reached a new level of stupidity. And half of us were like:
I think my main point of this article is I get that people aren't happy with some of Trump's views on things. But that's kind of how it works with any president. There are going to be things you don't agree with. If you 100% agree with every viewpoint of a politician good for you but I have NEVER met a person that agrees with a politician 100% and knows what they're talking about. Or they say they agree and when you ask them about they're stance on a subject and they answer with "I agree with *insert politician name here* and can't give you a real answer except that you're wrong. If you are one of these people, and you're just arguing to argue, please do us all a favor and shut the f*** up.
If you have actual thoughts on the matter, speak up. I have thoughts on lots of political issues, but I try not to talk about them because I'm not THAT educated on all aspects of it. I can't make an outstanding argument, so I shut the f*** up. The few that I do know pretty well, I'll talk about and give my two cents to anyone who will listen.
There are some issues that I actually agree with Trump on and there are some that make me hope he gets hit by lightening. But to the people who are pissed about the marches and are like:
Even if you don't agree with why they were marching, can you really be mad? They were peaceful. They were trying to make a point for an issue that was important to them. Americans have been protesting since before we were our own country. Calm down.
But you can disagree with the choices he's making. I especially don't agree with the new head of education. Really? Her? Of all the people to pick from...
But I hope everyone is wrong and that he doesn't stay on this suck-tacular track that he's been on so far. But I also hope he doesn't crash and burn. I hope he's a good president despite his obvious personality flaws.
Now, I kind of wished I had found a sitter and marched that day. But I didn't and I'll live... if Trump doesn't kill us...
So thank you to the people who protested peacefully, knew why they were actually protesting, and tried to get their point across. You are the people that will change the world and I hope my daughter grows up to be as politically aware and feisty as you!
