Thoughts On The First Day Of Class

I honestly can't believe this is happening to me.

Thoughts On The First Day Of Class

The first day of class is both exciting and nerve wracking. Between making sure you are in the right classroom to deciding where to sit and what you should have out on your desk, the anxiety that comes to walking into class on your first day is real. The thoughts that swim through my head are never ending.

1. Should I be a geek and sit up front?

Honestly, I'll only pay attention if I'm in the front, so I will keep my geek status.

2. Will I know anyone?

Nope, don't know a soul and social anxiety impairs me from making friends.

3. Did this person have to sit next to me?

There are so many other places to sit, why next to me?

4. Why did I think I could take a morning class?

I could barely do a 9:30 a.m. class last semester, why would I take a class at 8 a.m. in the morning?

5. When can I get coffee?

Why didn't I grab a cup before class?

6. There is required reading material?

I can't believe I didn't get this book. I won't be able to find it on sale now.

7. Why didn't I eat breakfast?

I am the most stupid person alive.

8. Why are we jumping into a lesson already?

We have been in this classroom all of 20 minutes ever. Just stop, please.

9. It's the first day and you're going to hold us over on the end time?

I have another class after this, let me go!

Bonus: Am I even in the right classroom?

I just sat through an hour and a half lecture and didn't realize I'm in the wrong class....how even?

Chances are, you are not as excited as Nemo for you first day of classes.

But, I don't think it will be as bad as expected!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
