Thoughts On The Election

There's no reason to be freaking out so much

Thoughts On The Election

Some would say this is a few days, few weeks, few whatever late. But now that the fire has calmed down a bit, and everyone has returned to their everyday lives, it's only appropriate to comment on what I think about the elections, to all the people that may care.

First things first, it's good to note the amount of care that comes out during election times. I classify myself as a social liberal, and an independent when it comes to all other things, but when major elections aren't happening, I, like many of my peers, could care less about politics. There are two things that the majority of us care(d) about in this election and perhaps in many other elections, 1) who's gonna be president? and 2) is weed finally gonna be legal? At the end of the day, I'm unhappy as anyone else that Trump is president and at the end of the day that is my opinion and nobody needs to necessarily agree with it or reject it, I am not trying to stir up any arguments. But anyone who follows politics religiously hates people like me, and they have the right to because I have nothing to prove for my political background. Do I know about politics and what created and runs our country, yes of course. But do I care enough to follow it day by day, obviously not. So it annoys even me when people post essays (yes I know this article has just become ironic) to portray their thoughts about how they're pissed when someone who knows a lot is just going to shake their heads when they read it.

Secondly, what's there to fret about? All the people who are freaking out and rioting and even talking about leaving the union (#caliexit), what's there to be worried about? This country has always existed on the basis of checks and balances, a system implemented to ensure that nothing insane drives this country into the ground. What is Trump, who is one man, going to do to ruin the lives of millions of people when in the past ten years, he didn't even fully decide what political party he was going to fully support? Do I believe he's qualified to be called the nation's leader, no of course not. He has no political background, nor any military background; he is a businessman appealing to the minds of the corporate geniuses and the rednecks, and to this country, that clearly is enough. But after taking all of this into account, some people need to realize that not all Republicans are bad just because Trump and Pence qualify themselves as one of them. Lincoln is most definitely not turning over in his grave and this country is not going to be worse off in any way besides what people do in response to the changes that are going on in the nation's capital.

And with that I get to my final point, we the people. We the people worked to form this union, a union built off trust and off working together but at the same time competing to get better and strive for greatness at all times. But..., we the people are also becoming sinfully stupid. Trump may be a dumb guy, but whoever is upset shouldn't be directing any sort of anger towards him. This country is become plagued by people who justify his election as a means to be racist, to be sexist, and to partake in acts of violence to apparently "make America great again." Nothing justifies racism, and nothing justifies being an idiot. So the few, or many of us, that are educated, normal, and still have a progressive mentality, should stop wasting our effort by directing our anger towards Washington. The effort is where home is. The effort is defending your family if you are a person with colored skin; the effort is defending your friends, and the effort is to truly make America great again in a time that many of us may feel helpless. That's my two cents.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
