For many incoming college first-years the day that we have all been waiting for is finally here or will be here in the next few weeks.
All of those days spent search through the aisles of target and bed bath and beyond for dorm essentials are over and it's officially time to move in. It is only two days after my move-in day, and I can honestly say, it was different than I thought it would be.
Move-in is actually a little stressful and very tiring. Whether it is carrying heavy containers, boxes, fridges, etc. up the stairs or waiting on an extremely long elevator line, it is very tiring to actually get your things to your room.
A good piece of advice is to make sure to box everything so that its easier to stack and also to bring something that can hold all the boxes and bring it up the stairs/elevator easily. Also, if you are using those storage bin drawers/containers it would a good idea to put all of your clothes/things inside of it already so when you get to your dorm you are somewhat unpacked.
Once you get all of your stuff in your dorm you have to unpack everything, which also takes forever. The biggest struggle for me personally was lofting my bed. That takes dedication and some help from a friend.
While move-in day is hot and physically exhausting, the hardest part is the goodbyes. Saying bye to your family is the hardest thing to do. They raised you to be who you are today. Just remember that leaving for college is a part of life. You will go on to grow as a person and do many incredible things.
While you will miss all of your friends back home and family, you will make some incredible memories in college and these will truly be some of the best years of your life. So as you unpack your last box and say your last goodbye, remember that it isn't "goodbye," it's a "see you later" and you are going to have the time of your life.
