A major election took part this last week in America. There was a lot of surprise about the results when President-Elect Donald Trump won the electoral vote over Senator Clinton. There is a pretty simple split between the country, many people are happy and many people are upset; however this is a democracy and we are all Americans. President-Elect Donald Trump will be our President next year, and will remain our President for the next four years. Whether you are happy or upset, this is a reality. I'm going to try and be as unbiased as I can with this article and just put some forth ideas that I have regarding this.
A simple fact is that President-Elect Trump will be President of the United States of America. You may have disagreed with some of the things he said within his campaign, but allow him the opportunity to be a President first. Do not go ahead and start bashing him before he has even enacted any policies. We must look to the future and see possible good. If President-Elect Trump begins to make great policies that you agree with, then support him, the opposite for if he starts to make policies that you disagree with. But it is important to do such in a civil manner to preserve the beauty of our country.
A lot of the protests being held have the theme of "Not my President." Well I am sorry, but he will be. More states voted him in, and just because the candidate which you voted for did not win, does not mean that the winner is not your President. There have been about fifty-seven elections held in this country, if every time that the opposing side won and the losers did not adhere to the democracy of our country, we would never have moved forward. Regardless if you think we will be moving forward morally, economically, or socially, unless the President does something that is corrupt, he is your President. Take the civil action and vote in representatives that support your views in your City, County, as far down as you can go and as far up as you can go. Write letters to your representatives and senators.
Every person in this country must obey the Constitution. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land, and only the states can ratify the constitution. The President is not above the Constitution no more than you are. Over time, the Supreme Court has done a fairly good job of ensuring that the Constitution is adhered to when laws are created, some may have a leaning towards one side of the other, but there is more often than not a good argument for why the Supreme Court made the decision they did. When soldiers take the Oath, they take the Oath to "protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." Although the President is the Commander-in-Chief, the men and women are swearing allegiance to the Constitution.
Whether you are upset or not, know that we are all Americans and that this is our Country. The President was elected and regardless if you agree with the President-Elect or not, be civil and respect the system of Democracy that we have in our country.
