This morning, I woke to a pleasant experience.
My face felt cold while the rest of my body was snuggled under my warm blankets, almost cocooning me in comfort. The dichotomy of my chilled head and the amplified coziness of the blankets reminded me of why fall is my favorite season.
For one, it is the prettiest in my opinion. I tend to love how trees look in the summer, turning forests into seas of green and giving off shade that can give you relief from the heavy summer sun. But when fall hits, it goes from cooling, straight to beauty. The leaves change color and soon the uniform sea of green becomes dappled with oranges and reds, yellows and browns. As the season progresses, the leaves shift from above to below, covering the ground in a bright carpet of colors.
Another reason to love fall time is the weather. For those who know me personally, I'm not usually outside. My reasoning, or what I like to think of as my reasoning, is mostly that the other seasons don't make being outside too pleasant. Spring is too rainy and mostly chilly up until the end. In summer, unless you are planning on swimming or sunbathing, most activities leave you drenched in sticky, smelly sweat. As for winter, you don't want to leave the house as it is just cold and wet outside from all the snow and ice. For me, fall has become the ideal time to go for walks, which I find I do more frequently now that there is a nip in the air and the leaves have begun to change.
Finally, it's the holidays. I love the spooky setting of Halloween (and not to mention the tons of candy made available) as well as Thanksgiving where families can come together to eat, joke around, and watch football.
It may start getting cold out, but go grab yourself a warm drink and head out to enjoy this beautiful season.
