I have watched the show "Nashville" since it premiered in 2012, and after four seasons, the series came to a close last Wednesday, the 25th. I admit this season was a little rocky with its plot lines and characters, and I was really worried that it wasn't going to be resolved enough because ABC canceled the show almost two weeks prior. However, after watching the finale, I was fairly satisfied.
Here's another warning if you haven't seen it yet: THERE ARE SPOILERS!
Would Maddie return to her family?
This was the plot line that I was most concerned with. Watching it made me furious because I just thought it was over the top. I was never a big fan of Maddie's character in the first place, and she emancipating from her family only made her worse. I understand Callie Khouri, the creator of the show, did this to show how similar Maddie and her mom were similar, and I'm just really glad that Rayna James, Maddie's mother, was able to show her daughter how difficult her experience as a young artist was. Because she did this, I was really happy that Deacon (Maddie's dad and Rayna's husband) came to save her and bring her home.
I was relieved that this ended in the way the way it needed to be.
Would Scarlet and Gunnar end up together?
Ever since the first season ended and Scarlet and Gunnar broke up, I really wanted them back together. I believe the music that they perform is the best, and I was really happy they were able to get it together and create a band and get on a tour. However they ended up on Autumn Chase's tour, and she was one of the worst characters ever created because she's so manipulative. I wanted to punch her every time she spoke.
Then Scarlett finally admitted that she did love him after all, even though Gunnar had gotten with Autumn. They almost broke up the band and parted ways, but they performed more beautifully than usual. This led Gunnar to kissing Scarlet on stage. This was probably the plot line I was most excited to finally be resolved.
How would the fight for Will's rights as an artist end?
Will Lexington, who was friends with Scarlett and Gunnar, is a gay country artist, and he struggled with himself and being comfortable with who he was. I always found this to be really interesting because you don't see this in country music. However, I did find the reactions to be over the top, but I knew that's how some people would feel in real life.
Will realized what he really wanted to do in his position, and I'm glad he was able to turn some people around in the right direction. He ended up being very happy and being a successful artist, so I was happy this ended well.
Would Avery and Juliette end up together?
Avery's and Juliette's situation is very complicated. They divorced because Juliette didn't really realize that she had postpartum depression after having their daughter. After this, Juliette almost commits suicide, but her manager Jeff, dies saving her. He was dating Layla. After this happens, Juliette goes to rehab, and Layla and Avery work together on her album.
Layla is also one of the worst characters ever created because of how dramatic and ridiculous she is. She ends up dating Avery to try to ruin Juliette's life. However, Juliette just wants to make everything right and be a good mom. Avery ends up finding out about Layla's manipulation and tells Juliette that he and their daughter will always be there for her.
I was so happy this happened and thought it was the end.
However, at the very end of the finale, Avery is waiting at the airport with his daughter. He is wondering where Juliette is and discovers that she possibly died in an airplane crash.
THIS IS HOW THE SHOW ENDS FOREVER.
Now I'm going to wonder what the heck happened. I know the show was cut at a point where they couldn't do anything about it, but I was just dumbfounded.
If there's anything I'm going to miss most about "Nashville," it's the fact that I won't be able to download anymore of their music. It's what made the show so great, and it showed a different side of country music. (And I don't really care for country music.) Still crying from this song back from season three to be honest.
