It is something that has happened to all of us at one point or another. Maybe you just woke up in the middle of the night craving a delicious glass of milk, or maybe you just got home from school or work, craving a delicious cup of the precious dairy substance. Providing calcium and building strong bones, milk is a drink like no other, a delicious liquid responsible for the healthy growth of people around the world. Either way, we've all been there. Here are five thoughts that seem to race through a person's mind every time they look in the fridge and realize they're out of milk.
1. I'm out of milk.

This is the most obvious, and quite often the most common thought that a person has upon realizing there is no more milk in the fridge. Time and time again, this thought seems to return as those unlucky enough to be out of milk begin to ponder when the last delicious drops of their most recent milk carton must have been consumed.
2. I should probably go to the grocery store

This is another common thought among those who have just realized that their refrigerator currently contains no milk whatsoever. A trip to the grocery store with the main objective of obtaining a new carton of milk is one of the most effective remedies for solving the problem of being out of milk. Human beings are problem solvers, so the instant that we realize we are out of milk, our brain immediately starts figuring out various ways to solve the problem.
3. What is the meaning of life?

This really has nothing to do with being out of milk, however, studies from well-respected scientists have shown that there is a significant link between being out of milk and suffering from various existential crises. Opening the door to the refrigerator and seeing no milk whatsoever will immediately force you to question the meaning of life and perhaps wonder as to the nature of your own reality. It remains unclear why being out of milk causes these thoughts, but the scientific proof relating absence of milk with questions of reality is simply undeniable.
4. How am I going to eat my cereal tomorrow?

This is a very common problem for those out of milk, particularly those who enjoy eating cereal in the morning. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and cereal with milk is a widely consumed breakfast option thanks to its deliciousness and accessibility. Therefore, when people realize they are out of milk, many of them immediately begin to question how on Earth they will eat their cereal the next morning, assuming they do not have time to make a trip to the grocery store before then. Should they eat the cereal dry? Should they find some alternative drink to use instead of milk? It is a mind-bending dilemma, indeed.
5. What kind of milk should I get now?

Of course, being out of milk forces you to obtain more milk, which gives you the potential opportunity to redefine yourself in terms of the milk you choose to consume. Maybe you've been going fat-free but you want to switch to 2%, maybe even whole milk. The possibilities can all be found at your local grocery store. Ultimately, you decide what you want the milk in your fridge to say about you.
These are five thoughts that seem to return again and again to those who go to the fridge wanting nothing more than a glass of milk, only to discover that the milk is nowhere to be found. Next time you find yourself in this predicament, these thoughts will inevitably go through your mind.
