My family is full of bakers, well at least what I like to call bakers. No we don't have a bakery or anything like that, but we do all tend to do a lot of baking in our free time. I'm one of the bigger bakers in my family, apart from my mother and grandmother, and when I do get free time I like to bake or when there is some occasion coming up I'm always the first one to ask what I can bake for it. I was recently told by a friend that baking is basically a science experiment that you can eat, and when he told me this I laughed at first. Then the more I thought about it, the more I realized that he was right. Baking is a science, and in the end you have something that you can hopefully eat. With this being said, I began to think about all of the thoughts that would run through my head in the whole baking process.
1. "Let's go to Pinterest to find a new recipe to try."
2. "OMG, these dogs are so adorable but I need to find that cupcake recipe I forgot to pin a month ago."
3. "I think this is the recipe."
4. "Nope, definitely not the one I was looking for but I will make sure to pin this one for next time."
5. "Found it, yes, now I have to get the right ingredients."
6. "I think I might have most of these ingredients in the cabinet."
7. "Well there was flour and sugar here a week ago."
8. "Oh yeah, that's right I made cookies last week and never did go get more back up ingredients."
9. "Off to the store I go."
10. "All I need is flour, sugar, eggs, and chocolate."
11. "Wait do I have cupcake holders at home? I think I do but might as well get these cute themed ones to be safe."
12. "Okay, how many eggs did I need again?"
13. "I wonder if we have enough butter at home. I should probably get some to be safe."
14. "Why is it that all of the baking ingredients are so expensive: $20 for a bag of five items, its ridiculous."
15. "I know mom is going to say something as soon as I walk in the house with these ingredients."
16. "Yep, I knew it and apparently we did have more flour and sugar; it was in the back of the cabinet."
17. "Alright let's start these cupcakes."
18. "What this recipe only makes 10 cupcakes. Who only makes 10 cupcakes? That doesn't even fill one tray."
19. "Well I guess I'm tripling the recipe."
20. "Okay, if I triple the recipe I will need 9 eggs, crap, I only bought 6, so I really hope there are more in the fridge."
21. "That was a close one, thank you mom for having eggs in the house."
22. "Now I can actually begin."
23. "Wow, 6 cups of flour looks like so much. I can't believe it actually takes this much flour."
24. "I know I need to measure everything correctly but some things can just be estimated."
25. "3 teaspoons of vanilla, where the measuring spoons go?"
26. "Oh well, I'll just guess, yeah, that looks alright."
27. "Grandma would be so proud of my judgement skills at this moment."
28. "Crap, I forgot to preheat the oven, now I have to wait to put these in."
29. "Well, might as well start on that frosting while I have the time."
30. "This frosting never tastes as good as the frosting you buy in a can."
31. "Next time I'll just buy the frosting instead of trying to deal with this mess."
32. "Yes, finally the oven's ready, now I these only have to be in for 23-25 minutes, I guess I'll start with 23 minutes."
33. "Why is it that what ever time you put them in for they are never done and you have to put them in for longer anyways."
34. "Crap, I forgot they need to be cooled before you can frost them, well I guess this one is going to be the taste tester."
35. "I knew these were going to be good."
36. "Now I just need to hide them from my family until tomorrow, we'll see how well this goes."
37. "And now I have to clean up."
38. "You know what, I'll just let everything soak until the morning and do the dishes then."
These may not be the thoughts that go through everyone's mind while they are baking, but they are some of the common ones I can think of, and I'm sure others my age can relate to at least some of them.
