JCW - Java City Worker

JCC - Java City Customer

JCW: Hi what can I get you?

(OH GOD I HAVE A 1500 WORD PAPER DUE AT MIDNIGHT

AND I HAVEN’T EVEN STARTED IT.

BUT DON’T LET IT SHOW BECAUSE FAY WILL

BE DISAPPOINTED)

*keeps smiling*

JCC: Can I get a Cookies & Cream Javalanche?

JCW: Sure! (Did he just say it like Javalanch-AYE instead of like an avalanche? What are you,

some kind of bougie cookie coffee connoisseur? I’m judging you.)

Vanilla or coffee base? (Please say coffee.)

JCC: Vanilla.

JCW: (Great.) Do you want whipped cream? (Please say no.)

JCC: Yes.

JCW:(Awesome.) Anything else for you?

JCC: Ummmm... *looks at bakery case*

JCW: (Really? As if you haven’t been in line waiting for 10 minutes and you just now

look at the bakery case?) **rolling eyes emoji**

JCC: Can I get a cookie?

JCW: Yeah! Anything else(Please be done.)

JCC: That should be it. *hands ID*

JCW: $5.86 is your total.

JCC: Hey, I kind of know you. Can I get it for free?

JCW:(We had one class together freshman year to which you asked me for the

homework over dm and never acknowledged my existence after that. HELL

NO.) *fake laugh* Us workers don’t even get stuff for free!

*scans card and waits for what feels like hours

for the computer to calculate to the simple task

of RINGING UP AN ORDER*

*finally done*

Here you go.

JCC: Thanks.

Fay: *comes out of nowhere and starts order*

JCC: So have you guys been super busy today?

JCW:(Can he not see I have a line of about 134857395 people after him?)

Yeah, it’s all in the morning though; it’s pretty quiet after lunch.

*smoothly takes next order with him standing next to the register

because he apparently doesn’t know how the Java City line works*

JCC: Gotcha. Hey could you add a little extra Oreos in that Javalanche?

JCW: (I was going to..but just because you asked, NO.)

Let me see what I can do.

*politely/snarkily laughs*

(What should I eat for lunch? One of those biscuit breakfast sandwiches

sounds kinda good.)

JCC: Did she use the vanilla base?

JCW:(Did he really just ask if Fay messed up his order? Fay is to Java City what

Adele did to music on the radio: made it better.)

She made it right. I watched her.

(Dick.)

Fay: Cookies and cream Javalanche!

JCC: Thanks!

JCW: Have a good day!

(Please don't come back tomorrow.)

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
