It’s that time of year again! Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful for friends, family and of course, food. But when you’re a vegetarian on Thanksgiving, the classic "Thanksgiving dinner" can be a little tricky. I mean, everyone’s talking about how they can’t wait to dig into some juicy turkey and I’m just like, but where’s the tofurky? Here’s some thoughts I will most certainly be having during this year’s Thanksgiving dinner.
1. I’m typically not one to discuss how gross I think meat is with my meat-eating peers.
But I’ll be honest, when I see that traditional turkey or ham placed at the center of the Thanksgiving table, I can't help but lose my appetite just a bit. I mean, just until I get some vegetarian-friendly Thanksgiving options on my plate. Speaking of those foods...
2. Is it just me, or are biscuits and rolls the REAL best part of Thanksgiving dinner?
I mean, come on, we were all thinking it.
3. I know they mean well, but being bombarded with questions from family members about your eating habits is the worst.
Enough is enough, let me eat mashed potatoes in peace.
“Yes, I still don’t eat meat.”
“No, I don’t care that you chose to eat meat.”
“Yes, I get enough protein.”
4. Personally, I stopped eating meat for ethical reasons.
I love animals and I chose not to eat them because of that. Honestly, thinking of all the animals that are killed for a Thanksgiving meal makes me kind of sad (F.Y.I. that's 46 million turkeys on Thanksgiving alone...shameless plug to recommend everyone reduces their meat intake!)
5. When’s dessert?
Due to my picky eating, dessert is my favorite part of the holiday season by a long shot. Catch me by the dessert table sneaking chocolate chip cookies while everyone else is still mid-stuffing their faces with turkey and gravy.
6. I’m beyond ready for Black Friday shopping.
I’m pretty sure that everyone, carnivores and herbivores alike, can relate to this one. The real fun happens after the food is put away and the credit cards come out to play, am I right?!
Regardless of if you chose to dig into a turkey or a tofurky this holiday, make sure you give thanks for whatever kind of meal you have on your table, be it a veggie-friendly delight or a meat-lovers dream.
